Limonta - the History
Limonta was founded in 1893 near Como, italy; an area acclaimed to have the Europe's longest surviving textile traditions.
Initial manufacturing operations were directed at hangings and jacquard cloths, with elevated standards of workmanship.
Over the last 110 years, the company has been distinguished by advanced technical and aesthetic solutions in jacquard weaves, velvet, specialist fabrics, and flat woven cloths.
The 1950s in facts, saw a significant advance in the scale of operations driven by a strategy change which aimed to enhance fabric quality through textile finishing processes. Under this momentum Limonta won worldwide recognition as a company that set standards in the area of specially processed, specialist fabrics.
As a matter of facts, since this strategy shift the company general know-how in textile manufacturing craft became impressive for its breadth and variety.
With such an all-round capability, the Limonta factory attracts custom from top-flight international fashion designers and ranks alongside the top global operators in its sector.
We at Volta had the chance to browse Limonta's archives and select a unique, waterproof-treated wool featuring an outstanding texture and feel.
We first used it for a limited edition woolen boot, made for our friends at Oki-ni.
You can find the last pairs online at oki-ni.com.
The special looked so good, that we decided to design a Woolen-Boot collection for immediate release this Autumn.
The collection is made of a 3-colors palette in the tones of autumn; beige, red and blue, paired with a mix of suede and washed-leather on the upper.
From Limonta AW folder we also chose a waxed cotton, which reminded us of those hunting leisure accessories such as bags or waistcoats; that is why we called them Hunting Boots, again in 3 seasonal colorways (sand, brown, blue).
Last but not least, Limonta provided us with an exquisite vintaged, quilted-nylon, perfect for high-performance needs in an urban environment.
We used it on Strada Low, developed in the three basic's: black, mud, bottle-green.
