We are proud to present the contribution of our Melbourne-based, San Francisco-born friend Domingo Robledo.
Domingo is a very well-tasted, talented storyteller who agreed in taking part to our X-Travelling Series; and we are happy to share his work with you.
The # 5 was taken on a trip back to Melbourne from Milan, where Domingo had the chance to roam through Shanghai for a few days.
The westside of South Bund was of most interest to him, as he saw this to be the 'fading side' of an old, yet new, city. These sorts of communities are changing throughout China, and much of the developing world, by the material forces of gentrification and social modernization. He was hungry, and well taken care of by the strangers he encountered...
DOMINGO ANTONIO ROBLEDO
Editor/journalist and photographer at large, it's safe to say Domingo Antonio Robledo is a cultural sociologist—applying his skills to document the brilliance of people from all walks of life.
Currently in Australia, working within the design sector, he edits a publication called (inside) magazine, aiming to inspire and push forward with a clear lineage and history in mind of cultural progression. Immersed in fine art, multimedia and documentary work, he develops content in this industry as both journalist and creative, combining his two disciplines into one constant practice.
"As a journalist I document the things I encounter, and contribute to a larger, collective effort. As an editor I study, support and push a team for the sake of creative goals in publishing. However, as a photographer I simply capture images, and I enjoy sharing the various sights and moments that mean anything and everything to me. When writing, it's a matter of proffering knowledge and opinion, for the sake of sharing ideas and relevant subject matter. I passionately do these things as one 'job' and hope it connects with people to engage on some kind of emotional level. It's all about provoking an emotion at the end of the day."
